What is Kambo?
Kambo (also known as Sapo) is the venom of Phyllomedusa bicolor, a green frog that lives in the Amazon rainforest. For centuries, native tribes have been using the venom before hunting and for cleansing purposes. The venom is mainly used in Kambo ceremonies, where they burn holes in your skin and put the poison there. While the experience may feel like dying, it is relatively safe and users report multiple benefits.

How to take Kambo
Administration
Do not smoke, swallow, or snort the venom! Doing so could be fatal!
Kambo is applied through holes in your skin.
First, you or someone next to you has to burn 2-10 (usually 5) holes on your arm or leg.
The venom is combined with water or salvia to make a paste-like substance. The substance is then applied to the holes.
Before taking Kambo, avoid recreational drugs for 1-3 days and fast for at least 10 hours.
5-10 minutes before you apply the venom to the burned holes, drink 1-2 liters of water.
Dosage
Around 10 mg of venom should be used for each hole in your skin.
How many holes you should fill depends on your weight, how healthy you are, and how much experience you have with the venom.
Usually, the ideal number is 3-5. Overweight people may need more holes, up to 10, while kids or underweight individuals should start with 2 holes.
Do not go over 100 mg in one day. This amount could be dangerous for some.
Safety checklist
Maximize the benefits
Keep in mind that integration is almost as important as the poisoning itself.
What will help you the most is contemplating about the experience – be it by journaling, thinking about the trip, or sharing your memories with a trusted friend.
Distracting thoughts can get in the way, which is why you want to spend the day after your trip without TV, social media, and other distractions.
If you can, spend time in silence and solitude. Meditate, go for a walk, contemplate the experience.
Should you listen to music on Kambo?
In Kambo ceremonies, users almost always listen to tribal music. This makes the experience slightly easier to go through and can help you process the emotions.
Duration
Onset = 10-60 seconds Come up = 3-10 minutes Peak = 10-15 minutes Come down = 10-15 minutes
You should notice the first effects within 30 seconds after you take the psychedelic
The whole trip usually lasts for 20-40 minutes
What does Kambo feel like?
The experience feels like getting poisoned, you will become very sick for 20-40 minutes.
Common short-term effects include:
Fever Stomach pain Pressure Confusion Inflammation of the throat Dry mouth Blurred vision Burning Dizziness Shaking Sweating Swelling Nausea, vomiting Headache Inability to focus Increased body temperature Increased heart rate (up to 190 beats per minute) Worse thermoregulation Anxiety, paranoia
The higher dose you take, the more intense these effects will be.
Contrary to a popular belief, Kambo causes no hallucinations in the vast majority of cases.
After the venom leaves your body, you will likely feel strong and energized. This is why Amazonian tribes used to take the venom before they went hunting.
Some people, however, feel exhausted and they need to rest for hours, sometimes even days, after the experience.
The only way to truly know what Kambo feels like is to try Kambo.
